10 Things to Know About the Turkey Derby
The high-banks of Wall Stadium (NJ) will be the backdrop for the Turkey Derby. The high-speed track creates excitement at every corner.
– The big money events for the weekend are the Tour-Type Modified 150-lap race and the SK/Wall Stadium Modified 100 events. The Tour Mods will race for $10,000 to win and the SK/Wall Stadium Mods will battle for $6,000 to win.
– The first Turkey Derby was run in 1974 and was won by Gil Hearne. The 150-lap race saw Hearne beat Fred Harbach for the win. This is the 49th running of the Turkey Derby.
– Matt Hirschman is a six-time winner of the Turkey Derby Tour Modified event. It seems every year he’s in the mix in every major Modified event in the county. Hirschman swept the Tour Mod and SK/Wall Mod races in 2016 and 2019, a feat also done twice by Jimmy Blewett.
– Jimmy Blewett is a seven-time winner of the Tour Modified event at the Turkey Derby. Blewett has also won in the undercard divisions including the SK-Wall Stadium Modified events. In all, he has won 27 races on the Turkey Derby weekend.
– The Blewett family will be racing with a heavy heart as John Blewett Sr, grandfather to Jimmy Blewett, passed away last week. The Blewett family has won the main event 13 times.
– Friday will feature these feature races: a Sportsman 50-lap race, a LTD Late Model 50-lap event, the Factory Stocks will go 40-laps and the 4-Cylinders will go 40-laps.
– Saturday racing will feature: The Tour Mods for their 150-Laps race, the SK / Wall Stadium 100 Laps , the Dirt Mods 50 Laps, the ATQMRA for 30 Laps, and INEX Legends for 30 Laps
– On Sunday the following events will take place: The INEX Legends for 40 Laps, followed by the Dirt Outlaw Stocks for 25-laps, the Factory Stocks going 50-laps, the Dirt Sportsman 50-laps, and the he 4-Cylinders will go 60 laps plus the Demo Derby
