CARS Tour Continues Virginia Swing at Dominion Saturday

Continuing its swing through Virginia, the zMAX CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car series will invade Dominion Raceway for the Mini’s Mission 125 Late Model Stock Car event. The flat and fast.400-mile oval is another layout that engenders tight racing with plenty of passing. In seven previous trips to Dominion, there’s been a different winner for each race, so the competition to become the first two-time winner will play out among Bobby McCarty and Connor Hall. For Hall, it would be a second straight Virginia victory after he won in a photo finish on June 1 at Langley Speedway. The race is sponsored by Mini’s Mission, a charitable effort led by Manassas, Va. native Mini Tyrrell, driver of the No. 81 Convenience Tire and Auto Chevrolet in the zMAX CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car division.

Tyrrell Hopes to Continue Strong Pace at Home

For the second race in a row in Virginia, Mini Tyrrell has a chance to score on home turf. The layout suits Tyrell’s style, and he has shown it in his four zMAX CARS Tour starts there. In those starts, the 19-year-old driver has three top-five and four top-10 finishes, the best of those a runner-up result in 2020. Those stats dovetail nicely with his performance thus far in 2024, where he has a pair of top-five finishes and three more in the top 10. His best finish, second, came at New River All-American Speedway where he finished .486 seconds behind winner Bobby McCarty. This weekend, Tyrrell’s charity, Mini’s Mission, has paired with Parents and Children Fighting Cancer to host 30 families from Walter Reed Children’s National Hospital for an all-expenses-paid weekend at the track. Activities include a Friday-night dinner in Groove Room followed by Saturday’s lineup of a chapel service, pit tours with CARS Tour teams and a special program for driver introductions prior to the feature race.

Clark Returns from Break with New Backing at Dominion

Logan Clark will return to zMAX CARS Tour LMSC action on Saturday after taking a step back following a fiery crash just four laps into the April 20 Orange Blossom 250 at Orange County (N.C.) Speedway. The 19-year-old driver brings with him new sponsorship in the form of Mainline HVAC and Hajoca Richmond. The partnership with Clark and R&S Race Cars is a nine-race deal, and six of those races will be zMAX CARS Tour events. Clark is seeking to return to form with a solid performance. With Dominion Raceway being his home track—he finished second in the track’s Bandolero Division in 2021 and earned a Late Model Stock Car victory there in 2023—a solid run with new sponsorship could be in the cards. As a lead-in to the weekend, the Logan Clark Foundation will host a charity golf tournament on Thursday, June 13, at Mattaponi Springs Golf Club in Ruther Glen, Va.

Pembelton On The Prowl This Weekend

Landon Pembelton is a well-known name in Late Model circles, and the young Virginian will come to Dominion Raceway this season looking to add another bullet point to his list. The driver from Amelia, Va. will be back with the zMAX CARS Tour this weekend, driving the familiar No. 0 Sellers Racing Toyota. He runs well at Dominion, qualifying second and leading 29 laps in the 2022 edition of this race before losing the top spot late to eventual winner Connor Hall. In nine career starts with the CARS Tour, Pembelton has a pole, two top-five and three top-10 finishes. The affable teenager made his name back in 2021 by winning the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.

The green flag for the Mini’s Mission 125 is scheduled to fly at 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 15. FloRacing will broadcast the event beginning at 5:45 p.m. with LMSC qualifying set to begin at 6.
