“This is definitely one of the biggest races of my career, I’ve really been looking forward to traveling up north and running a 410 with those guys. I really want to thank Sam and Aaron Pierce and AP Driver Development, Sam Pierce Chevrolet and the Must See Racing Series for this opportunity”, said Bettis.
Bettis is no stranger to success with new endeavors.
Colton made his midwestern US debut last July at Anderson (IN) Speedway. He won the 75-lap Don and Mel Keyon Classic by a large margin of victory in a Kenyon MidgetCar under the tutelage of sprint car veteran and driver development specialist Aaron Pierce. The teenage phenom had never before driven a MidgetCar of any type nor ever raced anything at the high-banked quarter mile in central Indiana.
Colton said “I think that I am ready for this. My only concern is that this is the first time racing a car that I have not been able to test first, but I have had a lot of success in winged sprint car racing on pavement so I’m actually looking forward to the increased horsepower with the 410 engine on a larger track with higher speeds.”
A lot of success is an understatement. In 2021 the humble young man became the youngest pavement sprint car champion in the world at the ripe old age of twelve. Bettis has gone on to win countless feature races in both sprint cars and pro late models including the coveted 2024 Dave Steele Championship. Colton is currently leading 2024 championship points races in both divisions at Auburndale Speedway in his home state of Florida. He has won five of ten sprint car events and two of three pro late model events this season and has only finished outside of the top-two once.
Race fans will likely be eager to witness Colton taking on the next new challenge of his promising career on Wednesday night under the lights at Sandusky and continue his historic march to the top of the motorsports food chain.
