Cory Hall Wins Easy-Kleen SLM Round Five, Setting Stage for Head-to-Head Championship Battle

Cory Hall (#83) entered the Chapman Bros. 150 presented by Hynes Paving trailing Ashton Tucker (#2) by four (4) points in the chase for the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series championship. After besting Tucker by one position in their heat race, Hall would grab the lead on lap 92 of the 150 lap main event, and drive away to his second victory of the season – all whilst claiming the points lead for the first time heading into a crucial season finale.

Hall rolled off for the feature event from the fourth starting position, with Greg Proude (#29) starting on the EIT Race Radios Pole. Proude quickly grabbed the lead as Hall worked his way up into the runner-up position. Driving the “Screamin’ Demon” Proude was racing with plenty of emotion, after word spread late in the week that the veteran driver would be making his final career start at Oyster Bed Speedway – his home track – as he anticipates retiring at the end of the season. Proude led the first 91 laps of the race, but would relinquish the lead to Hall as the duo battled through lapped traffic. Moments later, the races second and final caution flew, and Hall would get the launch on the restart. Try as he might, Proude was unable to get back by Hall and would settle for the runner-up position and watch as Hall pulled into EPIC Racewear victory lane.

While Hall raced to the victory, his fellow championship foes tried their best to minimize damage in the standings. Robbie MacEwen (#40) earned his third podium of the season with a third place result – a finish which came after a few intense battles throughout. First MacEwen battled with Darren MacKinnon for much of the first half of the race, and then he had to hold off Ashton Tucker (#2) – the points leader entering the day – in the run to the finish. Tucker was the hard charger of the race, wheeling up to a fourth place result from a dismal 14th place qualifying effort, and defending Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series champion Dylan Gosbee (#16) earned his second top five of the season as he crossed the line in fifth.

The race was another clean affair, being completed in 43 minutes on the heels of just a pair of cautions. The races first caution flew on lap 39 when Curtis Collins (#27) went for a spin in turn four, while Darren MacKinnon (#18) with issues drew the second and final caution on lap 93.

Heat race victories were swept by Prince Edward Island competitors, with MacKinnon, Gosbee, and Proude crossing the start finishing line first in their respective qualifiers.

As mentioned, Cory Hall has assumed the lead in championship points for the first time in 2024. Hall unofficially holds a narrow three-point lead over Ashton Tucker heading into the season finale – the ReCar 150 presented by Wonder Auto & Tire at Speedway 660 on Saturday August 17th. Third in points, Robbie MacEwen (#40) managed to close the gap on the top two ever so slightly, as MacEwen now sits 22 points back as he gives it everything he has to steal away the title from the top two.

It is just two weeks until the 2024 Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series championship gets crowned! Drivers return to action for the sixth and final round on the calendar on Saturday August 17th at Speedway 660. The ReCar 150 presented by Wonder Auto & Tire will culminate a full season's worth of excitement with the stage set for a barn burner of a championship race. Cory Hall and Ashton Tucker will look to settle their season-long war, while Robbie MacEwen will try and pull out all stops to pull off an upset as the sun sets on the season. Action will begin at 6pm for the ReCar 150 presented by Wonder Auto & Tire.
