CRA Late Model Sportsman 2022 Championship to be Decided at Winchester
Salem, IN (October 11, 2022) – The Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Powered by JEGS will return to action this Saturday, October 15th on the famous High Banks of Winchester Speedway, as part of the big 51st Winchester 400 Weekend Presented by Vore’s Welding & Steel. The series will crown its 2022 Champion on Saturday, concluding its 17th season of competition.
Ryan Fleming, an Ohio native, secured his first-ever series win in the season opener at Shadybowl Speedway on April 3rd as part of the CRA Cabin Fever Championships. Jeff Marcum claimed victory in the series event at Anderson Speedway on April 16th, and Austin Coe won at Mt. Lawn Speedway on June 16th. Marcum returned to the winner’s circle on July 2nd at Anderson Speedway. J.P. Crabtree triumphed on August 13th at Anderson Speedway and again at Winchester Speedway on Labor Day Weekend, driving his father’s car. Jeff Marcum sealed his third victory of the 2022 series on September 17th at Anderson Speedway.
The four drivers vying for the 2022 Chase for Championship title this Saturday include the series’ Regular Season Champion, Kyle Worley, Caleb Reschar, and two series rookies, Keegan Sobilo and Logan Huckeba. The driver who finishes highest among these four in the 40-lap Championship event will be crowned the 2022 series Champion. This will be the first CRA Championship for any of these four participants.
The Winchester 400 Weekend kicks off with optional load in, hauler parking, and pit pass purchases from 3 to 7pm on Thursday.
The pits will now open on Friday at 9:30 a.m. and all divisions will commence rotating practice at 1:30 p.m. The second round of practice, along with Group Qualifying for the Vore’s Compact Touring Series, the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman Series, and the Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks New Star events will kick off at 4:15 p.m. Qualifying for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Nova Motorsports will start at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m., the racing action will commence with the 20-lap Vore’s Compact Touring Series B Main. This will be followed by the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Season Championship JEGS 100. The Vores Touring Compacts Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales 30 will take place after that. The night’s racing action will conclude with the CRA Late Model Sportsman and CRA Street Stocks 20 lap New Star features.
The pit gates at the track will open at 8am on Saturday. All Saturday divisions will commence practice at 10:30am. At 2:50pm, the qualifying rounds are set to begin. The day’s racing activities, including the Vore’s Welding CRA Late Model Sportsman 40 lap Season Championship, will kick off at 5pm. Other Saturday races will feature the Van Hoy Oil CRA Street Stocks in their 40 lap Season Championship event, the Midwest Modifieds in the 50 lap Run for the Gun, and the Thunder Roadsters in a 20-lap feature. When the races have finished, a party will be held at the track.
On Sunday, the pits will open at 9am. At 12:30pm, there will be an autograph session on the track. The 51st Winchester 400, sponsored by Vore’s Welding & Steel, is set to start at 2pm.
