Honeycutt Breaks Through for Third Career CARS Win at Ace

Kaden Honeycutt achieved a massive victory on Friday night at Ace Speedway in the CARS Tour competition.

Nearly two weeks following his grandfather’s death, Honeycutt broke a long winless streak for both himself and Nelson Motorsports. He did this impressively by leading almost all laps and maintaining his position even through lapped traffic.

His racing experience was filled with tears, laughter, and all aspects of family life – both blood-related and otherwise. The entire group engaged in prayer before spraying champagne for the second time.

Again, just a special win.

“Honeycutt said, “This is incredibly special, particularly after the loss of my grandfather a few weeks ago. Both my family and the team have worked tirelessly all season. Unfortunately, we just haven’t had the luck required to conclude these races successfully.””

At last, things unfolded in our favor. The light remained green, and I managed to maintain a distance from Chad (McCumbee), while preserving my brakes in case of any unforeseen events.

Honeycutt was unaware that McCumbee had dropped out of the race due to a brake o-line failure and had a significant lead over Josh Berry. Berry was substituting for the suspended Carson Kvapil in the JR Motorsports No. 8.

Honeycutt and McCumbee just finished an exciting face-off amidst lap traffic.

“Honeycutt described the situation as very intense. “We experienced a spin just ahead of us, which was somewhat frightening. Luckily, as I manoeuvred between Brandon Pierce and Dylan Ward, who were intensely racing, Pierce afforded me some space. This was beneficial, especially when McCumbee got squeezed, aiding us,” he recounted.

Berry came in second place but couldn’t stay for after-race celebrations as he had to return to the greater Charlotte area for the NASCAR Xfinity Series race on the ROVAL on Saturday. He could progress to the Round of 8 if he maintains a position above the cutline by the end of that race.

Kvapil’s suspension for Saturday, a consequence of a retaliatory action last month at Tri County Motor Speedway, allowed Honeycutt to gain all but one of the maximum points available at Ace. He managed to reduce the lead from 72 to 37, although the odds are still against him.

Honeycutt was simply proud to have ended both his own winless streak in Late Model and that of Nelson Motorsports – these were the longest in the organization’s modern history.

"We’re second in points and it doesn’t feel like it because we hadn’t won," Honeycutt said. "So it’s not been a lack of effort or performance, just some bad breaks and things that didn’t go our way that finally did tonight so I’m just happy to get these guys to Victory Lane because they deserve it."
