Kyle Steckly Takes APC United Late Models Win at Flamboro
It may have taken an extra day for Kyle Steckly to win the APC United Late Model Series’ visit to Flamboro Speedway, but that was just fine with him.
Steckly finished ahead of J.R. Fitzpatrick and Shae Gemmell for the victory in the Spectra Premium 100. The race took place on Sunday after being rained out on Satuday evening, and even saw an extended caution period on Sunday for a brief passing shower.
That wasn’t enough to halt the race, however, and Steckly handled the ups and downs to win the second race of the APC Late Model season.
“The car was awesome,” said Steckly in victory lane. “The APC Auto Parts No. 22 had a lot of speed, so big thanks to my crew. It was a crazy race there with the rain and getting shuffled around there on the restarts. It all worked out well for us, so happy to pick up the win and keep fighting.
“You’ve just got to stay locked in and not worry too much about the rain. You’ve got to stay careful, because it was pretty wet out there for a while and track was gone a couple of times. Luckily, we got it in and finished all 100 laps.”
J.R. Fitzpatrick finished second, putting the two most recent APC champions in the top two spots.
“I’m glad we got this race in,” said Fitzpatrick. “We had a lot of fun. I knew Kyle was going to be the guy to beat. I think we were just a touch away from being really good. The new tire that the APC Series is on is a good tire, but it’s just completely thrown my setup out. We’ll come back stronger.”
Shae Gemmell rounded out the podium, staying near the front of the field throughout the 100 lap race.
“The car was actually half-decent at the beginning of the race,” said Gemmell. “We fell off there about halfway through. The car got a little tight on me halfway through the center. The car kind of came back to me the last two cautions before the green flag run.”
Jo Lawrence charged from deep in the field to finish fourth, while Blair Wickett finished fifth.
Jake Sheridan led the first half of the race, but came to a halt on the racetrack with an issue. Sheridan rejoined the field, but was later collected in a multi-car incident and finished 19th.
The APC United Late Model Series will be back in action on Saturday, June 15 at Peterbroough Speedway. Click here to subscribe to RacingAmerica.TV to watch next Saturday.
