Scott McDaniel Nabs Big Win in Oxford Championship Series SLM Title Chase

Scott McDaniel picked up his first Super Late Model win of the 2024 season at Oxford Plains Speedway and gained valuable ground in the Oxford Championship Series points chase on Saturday.

McDaniel won the 50-lap feature on Allen’s Coffee Brandy Night, leading every circuit of the event. He entered the evening second in points behind opening-day winner Trevor Sanborn, and has sights set on the track championship.

“We set out to win the championship this year, so we’re going to come here and run every week,” said McDaniel in victory lane. “It seems like our car gets better and better the more we run. It’s not very often you have a car like this where you get to start out front and have an easy race like we just did.”

That may be bad news for the competition at Oxford Plains, as McDaniel says there hasn’t been much tinkering on his No. 14 over the course of the season so far.

“Our car has just been so good. We really haven’t done anything to it. It’s been so good since we unloaded it in April. It just seems like inside, outside, we can go wherever we want. It’s just been awesome.”

Kate Re added another podium finish to her season tally, finishing second to McDaniel.

“Congrats to Scott and Brandon [Barker], they both ran great races. I just can’t thank all my crew for all the hard work this year. They’ve given it 110 percent every week, and I can’t do it without them.”

Brandon Barker scored his first podium finish of the season at Oxford in the Go Fas Racing No. 32. It’s been hard work for Barker and the Archie St. Hilaire team as they look for gains heading into “big race season” at Oxford Plains.

“We’ve been here a lot with this thing,” said Barker. “Hopefully we’re getting it in the right direction. I’ve got to thank Archie for everything, Keen Parts, Corvette Parts, the whole crew. They’ve been working hard on this thing. It’s been a headache for the past two years. I think we’re getting there, but hopefully it shows in the big races.”

Next weekend will be a busy one for Oxford’s Super Late Model contingent. Saturday, June 8 is Maine Machine Night, with the Oxford Championship Series Super Late Models’ 100-lapper serving as a qualifier for the All That’s Metal Celebration of America 300. The highest finishing car in next Saturday’s that doesn’t qualify for the Celebration of America 300 on July 2-3 will receive a provisional starting spot.

Sunday, June 9 sees the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Models taking part in a twin-150 doubleheader, with the Mid-Coast Excavation 150 and Stearns & Daughters LLC 150 both on the docket.
