Thompson Ready to Roar with NASCAR Modified and NESS Supermodified Doubleheader

Thompson Speedway returns to some of the region’s top racing action this Wednesday, August 14 headlined by the annual midweek showing for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour with double billing courtesy of the New England Supermodified Series (NESS)! A double-shot of intense, top tier Modified racing joins the five track championship divisions that call Thompson Speedway home for a seven-division card in an action packed Wednesday night!

With the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour passing the halfway point of their 16-event season in 2024, it is once again set to be a showdown on the Thompson highbanks between Ron Silk and Justin Bonsignore. Bonsignore tracks the defending Tour champion by just one point going into the Thompson 150, a dangerous margin for a track where both drivers have showcased high talent. Twenty-five other drivers will look to best both Bonsignore and Silk on the road to victory, with Eric Goodale, Craig Lutz and Doug Coby among those looking for another Whelen Modified Tour win at the Big-T while Jake Johnson, Woody Pitkat, Austin Beers, Matt Swanson and ‘Big Money’ Matt Hirschman look to take a NWMT victory at Thompson!

The New England Supermodified Series (NESS) enters Thompson Speedway in a big way. With growing talent and growing fields in 2024, their 40-lap showcase on the highbanks will be no different! Leading the fray is Windham, Maine’s Bobby Timmons who looks to bounce back from a runner-up finish behind Ben Seitz last Friday. Jon McKennedy has also stated his intention to join the field and pull double duty with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in his first return to NESS following his dominance during the Celebration of America midweek show at Oxford Plains Speedway in July.

After building a five-race win streak, Ellington’s Tyler Chapman continues to head the AZ Roofing SK Light Modifieds as the division once again goes for a $1,000-to-win purse on Wednesday. Jon Puleo will be tested in the Thompson Sunoco Modifieds as the division returns to a 30-lap trophy dash format while Nick Johnson’s Late Model lead is only three-points above Kulwicki Driver Development Program (KDDP) finalist Derek Gluchacki. Kevin Moore won last week’s Mini Stock battle but defending champion Jared Roy continues to lead the war while ‘Leadfoot’ Larry Barnett holds a ten-point lead over Al Stone III in the Street Stocks.

Thompson Speedway is back on Wednesday, August 14 with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Thompson 150 presented by FloSports! Also headlined by the New England Supermodified Series (NESS), the Thompson 150 program will also include continued track championship action courtesy of the Thompson Sunoco Modifieds, a $1,000-to-win AZ Roofing SK Light Modified showdown, the Late Models, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks for a seven division Wednesday night showcase!
