SACRAMENTO — The Charlotte Hornets defeated Team China 93-62 in the California Classic Summer League at Golden 1 Center on Sunday.
The Hornets delivered a dominant performance to get past Team China on Sunday. Much like it happened against the Spurs on Saturday, the Hornets enjoyed a dominant start and never looked back, outscoring Team China 26-9 during the first quarter. Even though Team China outscored Charlotte in the second quarter by an 18-17 score, the deficit was too much to overcome. The Hornets would end up closing the game following a 29-16 score in the fourth quarter to improve to 2-0 in the California Classic. Meanwhile, Team China fell to 0-2.
Bryce McGowens was dominant for the Hornets and scored a game-high 20 points. Jake Stephens posted 14 points off the bench. No other Charlotte player scored in double figures, but Nick Smith Jr. and Zavier Simpson each finished with eight points and four rebounds. Simpson also had four assists and three steals.
Hansen Yang was the leading scorer for Team China with 12 points, and he was the lone player on the team who scored in double digits. Shuaipeng Cheng posted eight points, while Sanning Liao had seven points and four assists. Four different players scored six points.
Both teams will continue Summer League play Tuesday. The Hornets will face the Kings, while Team China will take on the Spurs.
