The home team always wins.
This was the third straight year in which the Kia Skills Challenge at 2024 State Farm All-Star Saturday Night was a team event, and it was the third straight year in which the home team won. After the Cavs and Jazz each won on their home court, it was Team Pacers — Tyrese Haliburton, Bennedict Mathurin and Myles Turner — taking the crown in 2024.
Additionally, for the third consecutive year, the contest was decided in a tie-breaker round involving a half-court-shot. In the first two rounds, which each had a value of 100 challenge points, the Pacers emerged victorious. However, during the shooting round, worth 200 challenge points, Team All-Stars – comprised of Scottie Barnes, Tyrese Maxey, and Trae Young – outshone the rest.
The All-Stars initiated the tie-breaker round, taking 58.8 seconds to score a half-court shot. The Pacers, despite not rushing, managed to beat that time by over 20 seconds. Haliburton concluded the competition with a clean swish.
The Pacers emerged victorious in the first round, completing the three-man relay in 1:07. The All-stars initially set the pace with a 1:18 time, but their performance was marred by Barnes’ ball fumble out of bounds and Maxey’s wrong route around the first pylon. Despite their best efforts, Team Top Picks, comprising Paolo Banchero, Anthony Edwards, and Victor Wembanyama, could not surpass the Pacers’ time. Their run was hindered when Edwards’ first two attempts at a corner 3-point shot hit the side of the backboard. The Pacers, on the other hand, performed a nearly flawless relay. All three team members successfully made their first corner 3, and Haliburton concluded the run by skillfully throwing a through-the-legs alley-oop off the backboard to himself.
The final round resulted in a tie-breaker between Team All-Stars and the Pacers, as both teams ended their first round with 74 points each. The All-Stars started the tie-breaker, setting a new record with 90 points. However, the Pacers surpassed this with 92 points, disregarding the two-point goal and simply alternating between the four and six points.
