Trail Blazers announce Rip City Remix as official team name of G League affiliate

PORTLAND The Portland G League team, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Portland Trail Blazers, announced today the franchise’s team name, logo, and branding at a community event at the University of Portland. Rip City Remix is a team name and brand that reflects the city of Portland, community, and culture and draws on the inspiration of remixing what is already amazing to enhance, innovate and transform into something extraordinary.

“This is an exciting day for Rip City and the next chapter in Trail Blazers basketball,” said Portland Trail Blazers President of Business Operations Dewayne Hankins. “We are thrilled to launch this team in the North Portland community, with a name and brand inspired by our fans, culture and region. Rip City Remix games will be fun, family friendly, and accessible, and we look forward to seeing you on the court this upcoming season.”

Rip City Remix is an homage to the vintage era of the Portland Trail Blazers, and emulates the colors and an identity akin to the 1970s, which is the era the Trail Blazers were born.  The concept of Rip City Remix was inspired by the Portland community and fans — a group of creators, crafters, DIY’ers, makers, and trailblazers. Rip City Remix takes the same approach of being inventive and creative by taking something and reimagining it to make it new again. This concept mirrors the G League where a variety of young and upcoming players, each with their own unique skills, backgrounds and playing styles, will be mixed to create a team that works together with the goal of development and advancing to the NBA to ultimately enhance the Trail Blazers team.

To align with the team’s unveil and on sale of tickets today, Rip City Remix was proud to announce its official ticketing partner, Tixr. The team is centered around being an innovative incubator and redefining the ways in which a sports organization operates — and Tixr’s digitally-driven platform will extend reach and streamline the ticket purchasing process for the Remix. As a believer in accessible experiences, Tixr will also bring fans special opportunities via a localized community give back initiative and a courtside seat upgrade program. Fans interested in season tickets can visit RipCityRemix.com for more information. Fans can also be the first to own a piece of history and gear up for the G League season with limited edition Rip City Remix “Launch Collection” exclusively available only at RipCityClothing.com.

Led by head coach Jim Moran, Rip City Remix will launch its inaugural season at the Chiles Center on the University of Portland’s campus in North Portland this fall. Games will offer a family friendly experience for fans at an accessible price point, with the opportunity to witness some of the best upcoming talent in the NBA. The NBA G League is a proven developer of NBA talent while also acting as the league’s research and development laboratory, testing out innovative rules now used at the NBA level, including the Coach’s challenge and the 14-second shot-clock rule. Currently, more than half of the players on NBA rosters have G League experience, including the Trail Blazers’ very own Ibou Badji, John Butler Jr., Keon Johnson, Anfernee Simons and Jeenathan Williams.
