DeMarcus Cousins joins team in Puerto Rican league

SAN JUAN (AP) — Former NBA All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins joined the Guaynabo Mets of Puerto Rico’s professional basketball league on Tuesday.
In a statement, the Guaynabo Mets revealed that Cousins, a 32-year-old free agent, still possesses the skill to play in the NBA. However, he will be showcasing his talents in Puerto Rico, a country with a deep passion for basketball. Information regarding the contract was not immediately disclosed.
“DeMarcus is among the elite players of his generation and from a talent perspective, he will be one of the finest to ever participate in the Puerto Rican league,” stated Marc Grossman, co-owner of the Mets. “His shooting capabilities and his ability to expand the game area should fit in perfectly.”
Cousins, who was the fifth pick in the 2010 NBA draft, recently played for the Denver Nuggets and Milwaukee Bucks in the 2021-22 season. He also had tenures with several other teams, including the Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, and Los Angeles Clippers.
During his NBA career, Cousins, a former college basketball player at Kentucky, averaged 19.6 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.
In recent years, several former NBA players have been brought into Puerto Rico’s league, known as Baloncesto Superior Nacional.
