The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame has announced alterations to its election process. The new changes will provide a more detailed examination of candidates from the International, Men’s Veteran’s, Women’s Veteran’s, and Contributor Committees. Since 2011, the Hall of Fame has allowed these categories to function as independent ‘direct-elect’ committees. This was done to ensure candidates who may have been overlooked received specific attention in these categories. After 12 years, the Election Process Committee has concluded that this objective has been achieved. Thus, candidates from these categories will now follow the previous traditional process, which involves being put forward to the Honors Committee for final consideration for election.
