LeBron: 'I will be as active as I need to be' during Lakers' offseason
The 2019 NBA free agent class is full of stars who could be on the move.
Los Angeles, where both the Lakers and Clippers have the salary cap space to offer a player a max contract, is one possible landing spot.
The Lakers are optimistic that having LeBron James on their team will provide them an advantage when recruitment starts on July 1. LeBron is prepared to assist the team in whatever way necessary.
“I’ve never played fantasy basketball,” James told Howard Beck of Bleacher Report. “But I will be as active as I need to be for this franchise to get better. That’s why I came here. I came here to win. And obviously, we need to get better, as far as our personnel. We have an opportunity to get better. And there’s a lot of talent out there, and a lot of guys that can help our franchise. So I’ll be as active as I need to be for us to get better and go from there.”
Following LeBron’s first season in L.A. which saw the team missing the playoffs, the next season has taken on heightened importance for both the team and LeBron. He will be turning 35 years old in December.
“This summer is crucial for me,” James confessed to Beck. “Of course, the franchise will always be there. But on a personal level, it’s extremely critical as I want to compete and I want to do it now.”
Numerous players will be available who could assist LeBron and the Lakers in advancing towards becoming title contenders.
However, there will also be significant competition from other teams chasing a star, such as the Clippers, New York Knicks, and Brooklyn Nets.
