LeBron: 'I will be as active as I need to be' during Lakers' offseason
The 2019 NBA free agent class is full of stars who could be on the move.
A potential destination could be Los Angeles, as both the Lakers and Clippers have the financial capacity to sign a player to a max contract.
The Lakers are optimistic that having LeBron James on their team will provide them a competitive advantage when recruitment starts on July 1st. Furthermore, LeBron is prepared to assist the team in whatever way necessary.
“I’ve never played fantasy basketball,” James told Howard Beck of Bleacher Report. “But I will be as active as I need to be for this franchise to get better. That’s why I came here. I came here to win. And obviously, we need to get better, as far as our personnel. We have an opportunity to get better. And there’s a lot of talent out there, and a lot of guys that can help our franchise. So I’ll be as active as I need to be for us to get better and go from there.”
LeBron’s first season in L.A. concluded with the team missing the playoffs. This makes the upcoming season critical for both the team and LeBron, who will be turning 35 years old in December.
“This summer is crucial for me,” James confessed to Beck. “Clearly, the franchise will always be around. However, for me personally, it’s extremely vital since I want to compete and I want to compete immediately.”
Numerous players who could assist LeBron and the Lakers in advancing towards being title contenders will be available.
However, there will also be significant competition from other teams chasing a star, including the Clippers, New York Knicks, and Brooklyn Nets.
