Mavs sign coach Jason Kidd to contract extension

In the summer of 2021, Jason Kidd was appointed as the coach of the Mavs.

DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks and coach Jason Kidd have signed a multi-year contract extension, the team announced today.

“Dallas Mavericks Governor Patrick Dumont expressed his excitement about Coach Kidd’s contract extension, stating it was well-deserved. He praised Kidd for leading the team to two playoff appearances in three seasons and expressed optimism about his continued leadership in building and growing the franchise in the coming years.”

“Jason is the most competent candidate to guide our team in the future, given my longstanding acquaintance with him,” expressed General Manager Nico Harrison. “As a previous NBA Champion and Hall of Fame player, Jason’s extensive experience and knowledge are unparalleled. His credibility and esteem among our players and many others in the league are well-regarded. I am excited to collaborate with him as we further develop the successful culture and foundation he has nurtured during his time as head coach.”

Kidd is currently in his third year as the Mavericks’ head coach. During his tenure, the team has achieved over 50 victories in two out of his three seasons (52 wins in 2021-22 and 50 in 2023-24), and clinched the Southwest Division title in the current year. In addition, under Kidd’s leadership, Dallas has triumphed in a playoff series in two of his initial three years as head coach, making it to the Western Conference Finals in 2022.
