NBA 2K23 Summer League: Grizzlies hang on in tightly contested battle vs. Timberwolves
Game Recap: Grizzlies 71, Timberwolves 63
The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves, 71-63, in the NBA 2K23 NBA Summer League at Cox Pavilion on Sunday.
There were eight ties and 11 lead changes in this close-fought battle, with neither team leading by more than 10 points. The Grizzlies grabbed their largest lead in the final 10 seconds, finishing the game on a 19-10 run across the closing four and a half minutes. The Grizzlies recorded 14 assists compared to 16 turnovers while the Timberwolves had just seven assists compared to 21 turnovers. Memphis also outscored Minnesota in the paint, 44-30. Both teams shot below 15 percent from three-point range, combining to go 7-of-64 from long distance.
The Timberwolves had just one player reach double figures in scoring, with Kevon Harris collecting 17 points, three rebounds and two steals. Matt Lewis led the bench with nine points and six boards. Wendell Moore Jr. finished with seven points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals.
The Grizzlies were led by Santi Aldama, who amassed 22 points, eight rebounds, six steals and two blocks. Kennedy Chandler compiled 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Kenny Lofton Jr. totaled four points and 10 rebounds while Tremont Waters led the bench with 16 points, three rebounds and two assists.
On deck for Memphis is a matchup with the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday (6:30 ET, ESPN2). Minnesota returns to action Wednesday in a matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks (4 ET, NBA TV).
