NBA 2K24 Summer League: Pelicans secure balanced victory over Suns

The Pelicans defeat the Suns, 82-73. Tevian Jones led the way with 16 points and five rebounds for the Pelicans.

Multiple solid offensive contributions and a scoring advantage in the paint helped lead the New Orleans Pelicans to a hard-fought 82-73 victory over the Phoenix Suns in the NBA 2K24 Summer League at Cox Pavilion on Tuesday night.

The game was a competitive affair for the most part, with the Pelicans winning every quarter but none by more than four points. New Orleans committed 20 turnovers but outscored the Suns, 34-28, in the paint. Neither team was particularly sharp shooting-wise, yet the Pelicans’ 43.5 percent success rate from the floor was still markedly better than Phoenix’s 35.9 percent figure.

Hunter Hale led the Suns with 21 points, adding four rebounds and four assists. Grant Sherfield furnished 11 points, five assists and one rebound. Trey Jemison mustered nine points but also posted 11 rebounds, two assists and one block.

Tevian Jones paced the Pelicans with 16 points, supplementing them with five rebounds. Karlo Matkovic turned in 13 points, five rebounds, one assist, three blocks and one steal. Dereon Seabon delivered 12 points, seven boards, three assists and one steal. Dyson Daniels and Frank Bartley generated matching 10-point efforts while recording eight assists and four rebounds, respectively.

The Pelicans return to the floor Thursday night against the Hornets, while the Suns face off with the Utah Jazz on Friday night.
