13 basketball legends with statues at NBA arenas
Kobe Bryant is the seventh icon from the Lakers to be honored with a statue.
On February 8, 2024, the Los Angeles Lakers revealed a 19-foot bronze statue of their late superstar, Kobe Bryant, outside their downtown arena as a tribute to him.
The statue, weighing 4,000 pounds, portrays Bryant in his white jersey number 8, with his right index finger lifted as he left the court after scoring 81 points against the Toronto Raptors in January 2006.
During the dedication ceremony, Vanessa Bryant, the widow of Bryant, stated that this statue is the first of three that are being created to pay tribute to the five-time NBA champion and leading scorer in Lakers history. A second statue will portray Bryant in his No. 24 jersey, which he donned during the latter half of his career. The third statue will represent Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, both of whom tragically died alongside seven others in a helicopter crash in January 2020.
