Atlanta Hawks

Reports: Hawks trade Dedmon to Pistons

Two Eastern Conference teams aiming for the playoffs have reportedly negotiated a trade to tackle some crucial requirements.

Numerous reports indicate that the Atlanta Hawks have traded their center player Dewayne Dedmon to the Detroit Pistons. In return, the Hawks will receive Tony Snell and Khyri Thomas. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report on this trade. The move allows the Hawks to free up significant salary cap space as Dedmon, who is earning $13.3 million this season, will be off their payroll. Snell, who is set to earn $12.1 million in the 2020-2021 season, is in the final year of his contract. Dedmon’s non-guaranteed $13.3 million for the 2021-2022 season is also a factor in this trade.

Sources inform ESPN that Detroit is swapping Khyri Thomas and Tony Snell for Dewayne Dedmon from Atlanta.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 19, 2020

Confirmed that the #Pistons are getting Dewayne Dedmon for the #Hawks for Tony Snell and Khyri Thomas.

Dedmon is slated to earn $13.3M in this season, with an unguaranteed $13.3M for the ’21-’22 season.

— Rod Beard (@detnewsRodBeard) November 19, 2020

Dedmon brings a strong frontcourt presence and rebounding skills to the Pistons on the court. After being traded from the Sacramento Kings to the Hawks on Feb. 6 last season, he averaged 8.1 points and 8.2 rebounds over 10 games. Dedmon has demonstrated his proficiency as a frontcourt player in previous years, averaging 10.8 points per game (ppg) and 7.5 rebounds per game (rpg) in the 2018-19 season, and 10.0 ppg and 7.9 rpg in the 2017-18 season.

Snell has proven himself to be a reliable 3-point shooter, sinking 40.2% of his shots from behind the arc last season with the Pistons. Over his career, he’s averaged a 38.5% success rate from 3-point range. His skill in extending the court will boost the Hawks, especially their All-Star guard, Trae Young. It will also afford big men John Collins and Clint Capela additional offensive space.

Report: Temple’s option not picked up

The Brooklyn Nets are parting ways with swingman Garrett Temple.

The veteran combo guard joined the Nets last season as a free agent, but will not have his $5 million option picked up for 2020-21, reports Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. Charlotte Hornets

Report: Bacon won’t get qualifying offer

Charlotte reportedly will not extend a qualifying offer to Dwane Bacon, so the third-year guard will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

According to Rod Boone from The Athletic, the Charlotte Hornets’ decision to part ways with Bacon, who has been with the team since 2017, seemed unavoidable after he was replaced in the starting lineup by Devonte’ Graham. Despite recording a career-high average of 7.3 points and a shooting percentage of 47.5% in the 2018-19 season, Bacon’s performance declined last season, averaging only 5.7 points per game with a shooting percentage of 34.8%. He faced offensive difficulties and by February, he was moved to the G League to play with the Greensboro Swarm.

Per a league source, #Hornets will not extend a qualifying offer to Dwayne Bacon by today's deadline, making him an unrestricted free agent. Bacon began last season as the starting shooting guard but struggled and was replaced in lineup by Devonte' Graham. Split seemed inevitable

Detroit Pistons

Reports: Pistons get Dedmon from Hawks

A reported trade has been worked out between two Eastern Conference teams with playoff ambitions to address vital requirements.

According to various sources, the Atlanta Hawks are trading their center, Dewayne Dedmon, to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Tony Snell and Khyri Thomas. This news was initially broken by Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN. The trade will significantly reduce the Hawks’ salary cap by getting rid of Dedmon, who has a salary of $13.3 million this season. In contrast, Snell will earn $12.1 million in the 2020-21 season, which is his contract’s final year. Dedmon’s $13.3 million for the 2021-22 season is not guaranteed.
