Atlanta Hawks

Reports: Hawks trade Dedmon to Pistons

A reported trade has been worked out between two Eastern Conference teams with playoff ambitions to address some crucial needs.

Several reports indicate that the Atlanta Hawks are trading their center, Dewayne Dedmon, to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Tony Snell and Khyri Thomas. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report this trade. This move enables the Hawks to free up a significant amount of their salary cap, as they are no longer obliged to pay Dedmon’s $13.3 million salary for this season. Snell’s $12.1 million contract ends after the 2020-2021 season, while Dedmon’s $13.3 million for 2021-2022 is not guaranteed.

Sources inform ESPN that Detroit is swapping Khyri Thomas and Tony Snell for Dewayne Dedmon from Atlanta.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 19, 2020

Confirmed that the #Pistons are getting Dewayne Dedmon for the #Hawks for Tony Snell and Khyri Thomas.

Dedmon is slated to earn $13.3M this season, with another $13.3M for the 2021-2022 season which is not guaranteed.

— Rod Beard (@detnewsRodBeard) November 19, 2020

Dedmon provides the Pistons with a strong presence in the frontcourt and an effective rebounder while on the court. Last season, he averaged 8.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game in his ten matches with the Hawks, having been traded there by the Sacramento Kings on February 6. Dedmon has demonstrated his capability as a frontcourt player in previous seasons, with averages of 10.8 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game in the 2018-19 season, and 10.0 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per game in the 2017-18 season.

Snell’s prowess as a 3-point shooter is evident, boasting a 40.2% success rate in the previous season with the Pistons and holding a career average of 38.5% from the 3-point range. His skill in opening up the floor will prove beneficial for the young Hawks, including All-Star guard Trae Young. It will also provide more offensive space for big men like John Collins and Clint Capela.

Charlotte Hornets

Report: Bacon won’t get qualifying offer

Dwane Bacon, a third-year guard, will reportedly become an unrestricted free agent this summer, as Charlotte is said to be neglecting to provide him a qualifying offer.

According to Rod Boone from The Athletic, it was inevitable that the Hornets would part ways with Bacon who has been with them since 2017. This was after he was replaced in the starting lineup by Devonte Graham. Bacon had his best career average of 7.3 points and a 47.5% shooting rate in 2018-19. However, his performance declined last season with only 5.7 points per game and a 34.8% field goal percentage. He struggled offensively and by February, was relegated to the G League with the Greensboro Swarm.

Per a league source, #Hornets will not extend a qualifying offer to Dwayne Bacon by today's deadline, making him an unrestricted free agent. Bacon began last season as the starting shooting guard but struggled and was replaced in lineup by Devonte' Graham. Split seemed inevitable

Knicks pass on Portis’ option, waive Gibson and Payton

Last summer, New York tried to make a significant impact in free agency by making three moves. However, a year later, all three players that the Knicks acquired are on their way out.
