76ers officially sign Greg Monroe
PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia 76ers General Manager Elton Brand announced today that the team has signed Greg Monroe.
This season, Monroe has played in 40 games, including two starts, for Toronto and Boston. He has averaged 4.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in each game, playing for 10.7 minutes.
Monroe, currently in his ninth NBA season, has played in 629 career games (starting in 417 of them) with Detroit, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Boston, and Toronto. Over his career, he’s averaged 13.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, with an average game time of 27.7 minutes. Monroe is a career .513 shooter from the field and has shot at least .500 in five of his nine NBA seasons, with his career-high .565 achieved in 2017-18. He is among the 25 active players who have achieved 200 or more double-doubles.
Monroe, who was chosen by Detroit as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, spent two seasons playing college basketball at Georgetown. During the 2009-10 season, he guided the Hoyas to a 23-11 record and a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 16.1 points per game and led his team with an average of 9.6 rebounds per game.
Monroe will don the number 55 for the 76ers.
