Reports: Chicago Bulls rescind David Nwaba's qualifying offer
For the time being, the Chicago Bulls have altered their decision regarding the qualifying offer given to young player David Nwaba. Various reports indicate that the Bulls, who are currently rebuilding, have withdrawn their qualifying offer to the 25-year-old forward. This move has now made him an unrestricted free agent.
K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune has more on the move, which may not spell the end of Nwaba’s days in Chicago:
On Thursday night, the Bulls withdrew their qualifying offer to David Nwaba, according to a confirmed source. This action has made the energetic reserve guard/forward a free agent with no restrictions.
They also officially executed a move that has been rumored for weeks – the waiving of Sean Kilpatrick.
Last week’s trade of Jerian Grant to the Magic for Julyan Stone, whose non-guaranteed deal will also be waived, was followed by further moves, according to a source. This surge of activity clearly indicates the Bulls are attempting to finalize another deal, likely to strengthen the wing position or to take on a problematic contract with an attached asset. There’s a strong internal conviction that another move will be finalized, one source confirmed.
A source stated that Nwaba’s move does not prevent him from potentially re-signing with the Bulls after the forthcoming transaction.
Last season, Nwaba averaged 7.9 points and 4.7 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per game for the Bulls. He was initially an undrafted free agent from Cal Poly. In the 2017-18 season, Nwaba shot a career-best 34.6 percent from the 3-point range.
