Reports: Chicago Bulls rescind David Nwaba's qualifying offer
For now, the Chicago Bulls have reversed their decision on the qualifying offer they presented to young player David Nwaba. Multiple reports suggest that the Bulls, who are currently in a rebuilding phase, have withdrawn their qualifying offer to the 25-year-old forward, thus making him an unrestricted free agent.
K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune has more on the move, which may not spell the end of Nwaba’s days in Chicago:
David Nwaba became an unrestricted free agent after the Bulls withdrew their qualifying offer to him on Thursday night, a source confirmed. Nwaba had been a valuable reserve guard/forward for the team.
They also officially enacted a move that has been rumored for weeks, releasing Sean Kilpatrick.
Last week’s trade of Jerian Grant to the Magic for Julyan Stone, whose non-guaranteed deal is also set to be waived, was followed by more moves, according to a source. This burst of activity clearly indicates that the Bulls are working on finalizing another move, most likely to strengthen the wing position or take on a poor contract with an attached asset. Another source suggested there’s a strong internal conviction that another move will be concluded soon.
A source stated that the move involving Nwaba doesn’t rule out his potential re-signing with the Bulls after a possible upcoming transaction.
Last season, Nwaba averaged 7.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in 23.5 minutes for the Bulls. Nwaba, who was originally an undrafted free agent from Cal Poly, also achieved a career-high 34.6 percent shooting from the 3-point range in the 2017-18 season.
