Shai Gilgeous-Alexander shines on Day 2 of FIBA World Cup Qualifiers

FIBA World Cup 2023 qualifiers continued on Friday with a new batch of NBA players taking the court. Here are some notable performances from July 1:

Ukraine vs. Georgia 

Svi Mykhailiuk (Toronto Raptors) poured in 16 points, along with 6 rebounds and a pair of steals to help Ukraine surge past Georgia 79-66.

Bulgaria vs. Lithuania

Ignas Brazdeikis (Orlando Magic) scored a team-high 13 points as Lithuania used a strong 4th quarter to edge Bulgaria 72-70. He also added six boards and a pair of assists.

July 1 action at the FIBA World Cup 2023 Qualifiers included Canada moving to 5-0 behind 32 points from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Montenegro vs. France

Theo Maledon’s (Oklahoma City Thunder) 16 points weren’t enough to dig his team out of an early hole, as France fell 70-69 to Montenegro despite winning the final period by seven points.

Virgin Islands vs. Bahamas

Buddy Hield (Indiana Pacers) led all scorers with a game-high 24 points to lead the Bahamas to a 97-80 victory over the Virgin Islands. He also added five assists and four rebounds to his totals.

Dominican Republic vs Canada

NBA stars Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder) and Nickeil Alexander-Walker (Utah Jazz) put on a show as they led Canada to a dominant 95-75 victory over the Dominican Republic. Gilgeous-Alexander scored a game-high 32 points while Alexander-Walker chipped in 17 points, 15 of them coming from behind the arch.

Puerto Rico vs USA

Jose Alvarado (New Orleans Pelicans) shined with a team-high 20 points, but it wasn’t enough to lift his side as they lost 83-75 to USA.
