Steve Kerr makes an offer to Bucks fans
MILWAUKEE — In a nod to their stop here last season, Golden State’s MVP guard, Steph Curry, asked Warriors coach Steve Kerr if any Milwaukee Bucks fans would be showing up in T-shirts emblazoned with “10-3” at Saturday’s game between the two teams, Kerr said before tipoff.
It was on a Saturday night not quite a year ago — Dec. 12, 2015, with Golden State playing the tail end of a back-to-back set after traveling from a Friday victory in Boston — that the Warriors’ perfect 24-0 start to the season ended at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. A number of fans had donned optimistic “24-1” T-shirts that proved prophetic after Milwaukee’s 108-95 victory over the then-defending champions.
Kerr, who still was sidelined by back issues as assistant Luke Walton handling the bench duties for the first 43 games, jokingly challenged the foresight of Bucks fans this time round.
“I will offer two tickets to anybody in the stands, to a game at Oracle [Arena], who shows up with a “10-3″ shirt on. That would be awesome,” the Golden State coach said.
Then Kerr immediately started qualifying his offer, eventually piling up more disclaimers than the rapid-fire narration at the end of a pharmaceutical commercial.
“I’m not giving ’em a plane ticket or a place to stay. But I’ll give ’em a couple tickets,” he said. “It’s got to be a real one, though. They can’t just scribble on [because] they see this on the way over. It’s got to be, like, silkscreened.”
Oh, and the Bucks actually would have to win to stick Golden State, who entered the game with a 10-2 record, with that third loss.
Kerr said, “They’ve got to have the shirt, it’s got to be professionally done, it has to come true and they have to pay their own airfare and hotel.”
Not to worry, Steve.
Behind Kevin Durant’s 33 points, the Warriors held on to beat the Bucks 124-121.
