Victor Wembanyama, the forward-center for the San Antonio Spurs, has been awarded the Wilt Chamberlain Trophy as the 2023-24 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year.

Wembanyama was the recipient of all 99 first-place votes from a media panel, becoming the first Kia NBA Rookie of the Year to be unanimously chosen since Karl-Anthony Towns in the 2015-16 season.

Wembanyama is the inaugural French player to receive the Kia NBA Rookie of the Year Award, an honor that has been given out yearly since the 1952-53 season. He is the third Spurs player to receive this accolade, following in the footsteps of David Robinson (1989-90) and Tim Duncan (1997-98).

During the regular season of 2023-24, Wembanyama was the leading rookie in terms of points (21.4), rebounds (10.6), and blocks (3.6) per game. He also ranked fourth in assists (3.9) and second in steals (1.2) per game. Wembanyama became the second rookie to top all NBA players in blocks per game for a season, joining the ranks of Manute Bol from the 1985-86 season.

Since blocks were first recorded in the 1973-74 season, Wembanyama and Bol are the only two rookies to have led the NBA in total blocks in a season.

Wembanyama set a record as the first player to average a minimum of 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks in less than 30 minutes per game in a single season. He also made history as the first player to achieve a minimum of 1,500 points, 700 rebounds, 250 assists, 250 blocks, and 100 3-pointers in a season.
