RELEASE: Oilers sign Draisaitl to eight-year extension

The new contract of the superstar centreman, which carries an average annual value of $14 million, will commence in the 2025-26 season.

EDMONTON, AB – The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Leon Draisaitl to an eight-year contract extension starting in 2025-26 with an average annual value (AAV) of $14 million.

The superstar centreman, aged 28, played in 81 regular season games during the 2023-24 period, scoring 41 goals and making 65 assists, totalling 106 points. Marking his 10th year as an Oilers player, he further contributed 10 goals and 21 assists in 25 playoff games. His efforts helped push the team to their first Stanley Cup Final since 2006.

“Today marks a significant day for the Edmonton Oilers,” stated Stan Bowman, the Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations & General Manager. “Leon’s dedication to our team, city, and Oilers fans globally is immense. His aspiration to bring a Stanley Cup title to Edmonton is at the heart of all his actions, both on and off the ice.”

Draisaitl, one of the most accomplished and dynamic players in the history of Edmonton’s franchise, was the Oilers’ first-round pick (third overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft.

The native of Cologne, Germany has played over 719 regular season career games, ranking him 9th in franchise history. He has scored 347 goals, placing him 5th, and 503 assists, also placing him 5th, for a total of 850 points, which ranks him 6th. Draisaitl has also achieved 146 power-play goals, ranking him 1st, 296 power-play points placing him 3rd, 61 game-winning goals ranking him 4th, 57 multi-goal games putting him 5th, and 239 multi-point games ranking him 6th.
