Sharks sign Igor Chernyshov

San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Mike Grier announced today that the club has signed forward Igor Chernyshov to a standard, entry-level contract.

At the age of 18, Chernyshov spent the 2023-24 season playing for both Dynamo Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and MHK Dynamo Moscow in the MHL. He managed to score four points, including three goals and one assist, in 34 KHL games. He also scored 28 points, comprising of 13 goals and 15 assists, in 22 MHL games.

Despite his brief MHL stint for the year, he came sixth in scoring for MHK Dynamo Moscow and was fifth in the U-19 league skaters, averaging 1.27 points per game. Two of his three KHL goals were scored within a five-game stretch from Jan. 6-13, with one goal in a 7-1 win against Kunlun Red Star on Jan. 6 and another in a 6-1 triumph over Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod on Jan. 13.

During the 2022-23 season, Chernyshov acted as the alternate captain for MHK Dynamo Moscow. He achieved a point-per-game average, scoring 38 points, consisting of 18 goals and 20 assists, in 38 matches. On January 3, 2023, he recorded his first career goal in the KHL, playing against CSKA Moscow.

According to the NHL Central Scouting rankings, Chernyshov was ranked as the ninth international skater in the 2024 NHL Draft.

The six-foot-three, 203-pound native of Penza, Russia, was selected by San Jose in the 2024 NHL Draft (second round, 33rd overall).
