Smith Entertainment Group Officially Acquires The Shops at South Town
The site will be home to the future practice facility for SEG’s new NHL franchise, Utah Hockey Club.
Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) has completely taken over The Shops at South Town in Sandy, Utah. The 111-acre space is set to become the Utah Hockey Club’s permanent, state-of-the-art practice and training facility, expected to be finished by 2025. The facility, which will be added to the southeast end of The Shops at South Town, will include at least two NHL-standard ice rinks and the team’s official offices. SEG will also ensure the facility is available for community use beyond the Utah Hockey Club’s needs, such as youth and amateur hockey and recreational activities. Meanwhile, The Shops at South Town will continue to operate as usual.
“Today marks a significant advancement in expanding SEG’s real estate portfolio and public services for our fans and Utah residents,” stated Jim Olson, a SEG executive and project lead for The Shops at South Town. “We are grateful for our partnership with the City of Sandy on this project and are excited to reveal more information during the development process.”
“Sandy Mayor Monica Zoltanski has expressed her excitement in welcoming Smith Entertainment Group and Utah Hockey Club to Sandy City. She views this as an exhilarating progression for professional sports in Utah, providing new opportunities for hockey enthusiasts and families. Moreover, it presents significant economic support for the expanding downtown Cairns District,” said Zoltanski.
SEG has acquired The Shops at South Town, its surrounding parking lot, and several nearby retail, dining, and hospitality establishments. These properties are all located within a 111-acre area bordered by 1-15, 10000 South, State Street, and 10600 South. Woodley Real Estate facilitated the transaction on behalf of SEG.
The Utah Hockey Club is set to have a ceremonial groundbreaking event for their future training facility on Monday, August 12 at 10 A.M. MT. Further information about the event will be released in the near future.
