Despite my upbringing in Brooklyn, I became a fan of the Leafs in 1942. One day, I stumbled upon an out-of-town newsstand on West 43rd Street, where they even carried the Globe and Mail from Toronto.
I was captivated by all the Leafs coverage that I could never find in the New York papers. Therefore, I subscribed and received this fantastic newspaper daily, albeit a day late.
I was eagerly anticipating the story of the Globe Cup victory. What made it even better was the inclusion of Nat Turofsky’s photograph capturing the beginning of the Leafs celebration. The photo featured Harry Watson, Wild Bill Ezinicki – my most admired Leaf, and Syl Apps, who I look up to as a role model.
