Arne Slot is silencing the doubters: Liverpool look the real deal under new manager despite lack of transfer business
Despite not acquiring any new players yet, the Reds are still making good progress in preparation for the 2024-25 season.
On Tuesday morning, Arne Slot will have access to all of Liverpool’s players for the first time. It is noteworthy that his will be the most prominent new face at the group gathering at the club’s AXA Training Centre in Kirkby. This is significant as Liverpool is currently the only Premier League team that has not made a signing during the summer transfer window.
The tension at Anfield is rising as Liverpool’s campaign is set to commence at Portman Road in under two weeks. There are growing concerns that the Fenway Sports Group’s (FSG) alleged stinginess could potentially jeopardize the Dutchman’s prospects of a victorious inaugural season.
Restlessness hasn’t escalated into outrage just yet. One reason for this is that Jurgen Klopp left the main team in excellent condition. Not only did he steer Liverpool back into the Champions League following a successful midfield transformation last summer, but he also managed to clinch the Carabao Cup using ‘young players’.
Secondly, new sporting director Richard Hughes said as soon as he arrived on Merseyside as part of a major overhaul of the club's sporting hierarchy that he expects a relatively quiet summer to come to a "crescendo" shortly before deadline day. Liverpool, then, are still likely to make at least a couple of meaningful moves between now and the end of the month.
However, the comparatively measured response of the supporters to the absence of transfer activity is largely attributed to the Reds’ almost flawless pre-season agenda under their new coach. His excellent start has given hope that he might match the revered accomplishments of his predecessor by transforming skeptics into supporters.
