Aces vs Fever Prediction & Expert Picks (9/11): Will Indiana Remain in the Race for the #4 Seed?

The WNBA regular season is approaching its final week, and teams are still jostling for playoff positions. A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces are currently in position for the #4 seed, but a loss tonight to Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever (7:00 pm ET, NBA TV) will put their position on shaky ground.

Entering tonight’s matchup at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Aces (22-13) are a game ahead of the Seattle Storm (21-14) for the #4 seed, while the Fever (19-17) are a further two games behind.

This is the first of two matchups in three days between the two teams, with the rematch slated for Friday night in the same venue.

The Aces are 2-0 against the Fever this season, twice winning by 19 points at Michelob Ultra Arena.

But a lot has changed since they last met, and the Fever are currently one of the hottest teams in the WNBA. Will they pick up one of their best wins of the season tonight against the two-time defending champions?

Aces vs Fever Betting Analysis

The Aces are coming off of a 75-71 loss to the New York Liberty, who are closing in on the top seed for the WNBA playoffs.

There are no moral victories, but it is certainly notable that the Aces fell by only four in Brooklyn without Wilson, who missed her first game since 2019 after injuring her ankle in last Friday’s win over the Connecticut Sun.

Wilson, who leads the WNBA in scoring (27.3 PPG) and blocks (2.7 BPG) and is second in rebounding (11.9 RPG), will be back tonight, and she was outstanding in the Aces’ two earlier wins against the Fever. On May 25, she had 29 points and 15 rebounds in a 99-80 win, and on July 2, she had 28 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks in an 88-69 win.

Another standout showing will be needed tonight to keep her in a strong position in the race for WNBA MVP, as Wilson (+450) has fallen behind reigning MVP Breanna Stewart (+300) in BetOnline’s latest odds.

It will also go a long way to the Aces maintaining their hold on the #4 spot, which the Fever are still in contention for thanks to winning eight of their last ten games.

During that stretch, Indiana has averaged 92.3 PPG and scored 90+ points six times. In their first 26 games this season, the Fever scored 90+ points five times.

Can they keep up those scoring exploits tonight? The Aces appear to have tightened things up on the defensive end as of late, allowing an average of 73.8 PPG in their last five games.

Also, in five road games against fellow top-six teams, the Aces have allowed 80 or more points only once, in an 87-74 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on August 23.

Aces vs Fever Prediction & Expert Picks

For the season, the Aces are only 7-7 SU and 8-6 ATS in games against teams currently in the top half of the WNBA standings, and they are 11-6 SU and 7-10 ATS in road games. However, in road games against top-six teams, they are 3-2 SU and 4-1 ATS, failing to cover only against the Lynx as a three-point favorite on August 23.

The Fever are hot right now and are 11-2 SU and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 home games, which is very impressive. But they are very much still a work in progress on the defensive end, which could be their undoing tonight. With Wilson back on the court tonight, look for the Aces to pull all the right cards and pick up a very important road win.

Aces vs Fever Prediction: Aces to win

Aces vs Fever Picks: 1) Aces -4 2) A’ja Wilson over 27.5 points (-120 at BetOnline) 3) Aces team total over 91.5 points (-120 at Bovada)
