WNBA Playoffs Fever vs Sun Picks and Odds | September 22, 2024
We have made it to the end of the WNBA season, but we’re not done yet. Here we go with the playoffs and we’re going to kick it off with a banger. The Indiana Fever will take on the Connecticut Sun in round one. Indiana hasn’t made the playoffs since 2016.
Rookie star Caitlin Clark has single handedly put the Fever back on the map in the WNBA. She broke countless rookie and league records this year, which was mind blowing. Clark averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game.
The Fever ended the season 20-20 and are the 6th seed in the playoffs. Indiana comes into the playoffs off a 1-point loss to the Washington Mystics, who were playing for the final playoff spot. I think it was good for the Fever to play a game like that to keep them warm and ready.
This Indiana team has nothing to lose, but I think they’re going to show a lot. They will have their work cut out for them vs this Connecticut Sun team. These 2 teams faced off 4 times this season, with the Fever winning the last game.
Connecticut will look to get ahead with a home opening win
Sun guard Dijonai Carrington drives to the net guarded by Fever guard Caitlin Clark.
Connecticut has had a solid season. They were 28-12 this year and are 3rd in the playoffs. The team picked up guard Marina Mabrey from the Sky mid-season to give them an extra push. Although they found ways to win, their offense was off this year.
The Sun ranked toward the bottom of the league for most offensive categories, which is surprising from years past. They are the best defensive team in the league to make up for it. Connecticut ranked 1st in the league for defensive rating.
One of the differences I’ve seen this year is Alyssa Thomas’s production. The triple double machine averaged 10.6 points, 7.9 assists and 8.4 rebounds per game. She only produced 3 triple doubles after opening the year with one, which was against the Fever.
I feel like Thomas has been more dominant over the year and her stat lines were a little unpredictable this season. She did have the help of her girlfriend DeWanna Bonner on offense, who led the team with 15 points per game.
It’s going to be a battle for the Sun as they’ve only seen this newly revived Fever team once and lost. Home court advantage should work in their favor as the Sun were 14-6 at home this season. Let’s get into the odds and check out the picks.

This Fever team toward the 2nd half of the season was a different one than the 1st half. When they dropped the 3 games to the Sun, they were all in the beginning of the season. Winning that 4th game a few weeks ago is huge for the Fever.
I expect a very physical game. Caitlin Clark is going to need to move the ball and keep herself moving to avoid double teams. She is also probably going to get pressed and pushed around all game. The Sun will want to send her a message early.
As long as the Fever can keep it close in the 1st half, it will give them momentum for the 2nd half. The other that will happen is the Sun will get frustrated and start making stupid mistakes. This could lead to the Fever maybe even going ahead.
It’s hard for me to say the Fever will win this game because the Sun are beasts. Thomas and Bonner are going to want to win this. They know they won’t have to go through the Liberty this year, so they have a better chance. Caitlin Clark may say otherwise though…
